AVB Input Component

The AVB Input and Output are on the same physical card but are represented in the Q-SYS design by an AVB Input Component and an AVB Output Component.

The AVB Intput component provides connections for inputs up to 32 channels in 4 streams for devices supporting the AVB protocol. Other combinations of input/output are described in the Properties section below. Connection is made with CAT-5 / RJ-45 connector.

Type 2 Hardware

Type 2 hardware provides new cables and connectors between the I/O cards and main boards in Cores and I/O Frames. Due to this change, the Type 2 hardware is not physically compatible with the older hardware. You can still integrate the new I/O Frames and Cores in the same system with older hardware, but the I/O cards are not interchangeable. Type 2 hardware can be identified by a yellow label on the back of the Core and I/O Frame, and the bottom of the I/O cards.

Status

Control

Function

Default / Range

Status

Displays the current status of the card both in text and color. The following is a list of possible status colors, and some example conditions.

NOTE:  These conditions are examples, and may not be applicable to all components with a Status field.

OK – Green – (0) – Audio is good, hardware is good.

Compromised – Orange – (1) – Audio is good but a redundancy mechanism is active (one LAN down but the other is still up) or a non-fatal hardware problem exists (fans too slow, temperature higher than expected, etc.)

Fault – Red – (2) – Audio is not passing, or hardware is malfunctioning or mis-configured (amplifier power off, audio streams broken, wrong type of I/O Card installed, loudspeaker short circuit, etc.)

Missing – Red – (3) – A piece of hardware, defined in the design, has not been discovered. Audio is not passing through that piece of hardware.

Initializing – Blue – (5) – In the process of firmware, configuration update, and design start. Audio is obviously bad.

Not Present – Gray – A virtual component in the design, that is designated as Dynamically Paired, and Not Required ,has no hardware assigned to it.

Listener Stream Connections

There are two ways you can connect an AVB Listener to an AVB Talker:

  1. AVDECC (1722.1) (see https://avb.statusbar.com/article/1722.1-features/): This is the typical method and it involves a 3rd-party AVB management software for example: Riedel AVB Manager or Pivitec’s AVDECC Controller. There are others available.
  2. Directly via “Full Stream ID”: Each stream on the network has a unique 64-bit stream ID (Full Stream ID). If you know the Full Stream ID you can just tell your Listener to listen to that stream and bypass AVDECC and any related 3rd party software.

Control

Function

Default / Range

Clear

(Momentary button)

Removes all Listener/Talker mapping (AVDECC or Full Stream ID), disconnects the Listener from the Talker and audio stops.

N / A

AVDECC Entity and Unique ID

Read Only. IEEE-defined 64-bit Extended Unique Identifier of an AVDECC Entity. These codes are automatically derived from the Talker Stream connected to the Listener.

N / A

Full Stream ID

Read/Write. Enter the Unique 64-bit stream ID of the Talker Stream. When this information is entered, it removes the AVDECC information for that stream.

Talker Channels / Stream

You can have from 2 to 32 channels per stream.

If you select 32 (in or out) channels, and 2 channels per stream, the maximum number of channels is 24.

If you select 16 x 16 channels and 1 listener channel per stream, the inputs are limited to 14.
